Outfielder Randal Grichuk will be on the New York Yankees' Opening Day roster, manager Aaron Boone said Saturday.
Grichuk will occupy a backup outfielder role despite batting just .125 in six spring training games, with a .313 OPS. The 34-year-old signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Feb. 26 that was worth $2.5 million this season if he made the club during camp.
The Yankees open the regular season Wednesday on the road against the San Francisco Giants.
Grichuk, 34, split his time in 2025 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Kansas City Royals, batting .228 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs in 113 games.
He is a career .251 hitter with 212 homers and 629 RBIs in 1,360 games over 12 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (2014-17), Toronto Blue Jays (2018-21), Colorado Rockies (2022-23), Los Angeles Angels (2023), Diamondbacks (2024-25) and Royals (2025).
The Yankees were in need of a right-handed bat to add to their bench and Grichuk has an .819 career OPS and a .500 slugging percentage against left-handed pitchers.
