The San Jose Sharks signed forward Kiefer Sherwood to a five-year contract extension valued at $28.75 million on Wednesday.
The Sharks acquired Sherwood in a Jan. 19 trade with the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a pair of second-round draft picks and minor-league defenseman Cole Clayton.
'We are very excited to have Kiefer remain in San Jose and be part of the group that we are building,' general manager Mike Grier said. 'The ingredients he brings to our lineup on a nightly basis blend extremely well with the skill sets of his teammates and we look forward to his contributions in the years to come.'
Sherwood, 30, has tallied one goal and one assist in five games with the Sharks. In that span, he leads San Jose with 28 hits.
In 44 games this season with Vancouver, Sherwood scored 23 points (17 goals, six assists) and had two hat tricks.
Sherwood played three college seasons at Miami (Ohio) and signed with the Anaheim Ducks as an undrafted free agent in 2018.
He has 123 career points (61 goals, 62 assists) in 314 games with the Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, Canucks and Sharks.
The improved Sharks are three points out of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 23 games to play. They are seeking their first Stanley Cup playoff appearance since 2018-19.
