The Los Angeles Chargers signed safety Tony Jefferson to the active roster from the practice squad on Thursday, filling the spot vacated after linebacker Khalil Mack was placed on injured reserve.
Also on Thursday, Los Angeles signed former first-round defensive end Clelin Ferrell and safety Rashad Weaver to the practice squad.
Jefferson, 33, has recorded 32 tackles and an interception in nine games (five starts) over the last two seasons after coming out of retirement to sign with the Chargers.
He has totaled 524 tackles, eight forced fumbles and five picks in 122 career games (72 starts) with the Arizona Cardinals (2013-16), Baltimore Ravens (2017-19, 2021), San Francisco 49ers (2021), New York Giants (2022) and Chargers.
Ferrell, 28, worked out for the team on Tuesday, one day after Mack hurt his elbow in Monday's win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Selected by the then-Oakland Raiders with the fourth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, Ferrell recorded 26 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 14 games (10 starts) last season for the Washington Commanders.
Ferrell, 28, was cut by Washington on Aug. 26.
He has 159 tackles, 17 sacks and four forced fumbles in 89 games (57 starts) with the Raiders (2019-22), 49ers (2023) and Commanders (2024).
Weaver, 27, has not played in a game this season. He has totaled 49 tackles and two forced fumbles in 36 career games (four starts) with the Tennessee Titans (2021-23) and Houston Texans (2024).
